I would liken .org to being a cartel now, First year small increase, and slowly increasing every year after that until they start getting some backlash, probably max out at around $15. It will be hard to make a case other than pure greed, as we sure to sh*t know the technology based costs for renewing domains should be going down, but personal greed continues to make them go up.
About 11 million .org's being registered, every $1 increase is $11 million dollars added to their bottom line. That is a lot of power to have against one's charity, or business, to basically extort based on your cashflow demands.
The personal mandate of ICANN is being perturbed for the sake of profit. Who knows what other ICANN employees will join Ethos Capital in the future with jobs, and options already awaiting them. The whole premise of this should make way for cleaning house at ICANN, and starting this process all over.
