I just sold Trading.TV for $15,000 via Uniregistry. Documentation has been sent to Ron Jackson at DN Journal.

Could you please tell me how you came across this domain idea as I'm new and still trying to learn?
May I know how you got an idea that this domain will work..... Or you researched about the TV domain namesThe domain name expired and dropped. I picked it up.

Thanks you for giving your time and explaining your method..... This is my first month of learning about domaning so I wanted to know how you got this domain idea.I go through a bit of research when evaluating names and figuring out what to purchase. I think we are way past the days when the keyword has to go with television. In this case, it does, but I have many names that don't. I expect a 3-5 year window of renewal costs per domain name. I look at comps and then try to understand what my risk is for the name over the period of time. If I am happy, I go with it.
In the case of Trading.TV, it sold in the past by a forum member here for I believe $9,000 with a premium renewal. That definitely helped my case when acquiring it because I was getting it for a percentage of the sale value. In addition, when evaluating legacy premiums, I look at how many years of premium renewals someone has paid to determine my acquisition cost. For example, if someone pays 10 years of renewals at $500/yr, they have sunk $5,000 in costs. They have at least attributed $5,000 in perceived value in the name. If the name drops and it's $1,000 and I have all the other factors in my favor, it's a no brainer.
The second major factor is I look at my yearly run rate on my portfolio. If I generate more sales then portfolio renewal costs per year, then my portfolio is running for free or house money. In my 15 years in .TV, the portfolio has paid for itself many years ago. It's all gravy. I am still sensitive to try to generate sales to cover my yearly costs though.
Third, I look for niches that others are not willing to exploit. I started out buying Spanish .TVs when no one else paid attention and got most of them for premium free. I made great sales on that segment and decided to buy most of the keywords there. My first registered Spanish .TV took 10-12 years to sell, but the ROI was in the thousands. It's all perspective.
Hope this makes sense.
